Bacteria can gather in the lower part of the body, especially when sweaty, which can lead to infections.
When the area is covered by a non-absorbent fabric, moisture can accumulate which would make the ideal breeding ground for yeast or harmful bacteria, according to Dr. Alyssa Dweck, a specialist in gynecology practicing in New York City. The moisture could also lead to severe skin irritation, chafing and infections.
Based on a study that observed five hundred men over the course of 1 year, guys who wore boxers during the day and slept nude at night had lower levels of damaged sperm. Men who also favored traditional loose fitting boxers provided 20% less DNA fragmentation.
The end result were compared to adult men who preferred wearing tight underwear all day long. Although the sample size of the study is arguably small, the study suggests that heat exposure due to wearing tight underwear proves to be negative for men.

He points out that the private areas need to be adjusted to the right temperature for optimized sperm production.
